Water Treatment Division: Saving You Money
Saving a few dollars on water treatment can cost a facility hundreds or
thousands of dollars in higher energy costs. In one year, a deposit the thickness of a
dollar bill in a 200-ton condenser can cost a typical Minnesota office building more than
$2,500 in additional electricity. A 1/16th-inch deposit in a boiler can add as
much as 12 percent to the entire fuel bill! Very often, an improved water treatment
program can increase systems efficiency by more than 20 percent. The correct program will
provide a multitude of solutions to a systems needs.
Saving Your Equipment and Systems
Water treatment is an
essential element in maintaining proper equipment operation as well as preventing
premature equipment failure. Water can cause scale and fouling, as well as corrosion and
pitting. Water can and will cause a piece of equipment to run inefficiently or to fail if
it is not managed well. Properly applied water treatment chemicals ensure systems stay
free from deposits and safe from corrosion.
Owens Building Services Division has often seen the disastrous effects of
the lack of or improperly applied water treatment. It was these experiences that brought
Owens Chemtex into existence in 1973. Today, International Chemtex Corporation is an
international supplier of chemicals for boilers and cooling systems. The ISO 9000
certified laboratory manufactures and inventories materials in the Twin Cities for
shipment around the world. Laboratory capabilities include Atomic Absorption, Liquid
Chromatography, and Spectrographic analysis.
Drum Return and ChemPakTM For Hands-Free Operation
ChemPakTM is a service offered by Owens which provides
the safety and assurance benefits of a hands-free chemical delivery system. Building
operators never need to handle liquid water treatment chemicals, handle and rinse
containers, or mix powders again. The ChemPakTM System delivers what customers
have been requesting: a reliable chemical delivery system that is virtually hands-free.
ChemPakTM avoids all the troublesome handling associated with drum delivery and
moving.
Chemicals have been purchased in drums for decades. They offer a safe
means of transporting and storing many materials. Owens will coordinate pick up and
recycling empty drums at no additional cost. This will protect the environment from
mishandled barrels. Drums will not accumulate in a corner; theyll be returned and
recycled.
Automating The Process
Coordinating with Owens
Automation Division, Owens Water Treatment Division is taking the next step into the
future: tying water treatment controls into the Building Management System. Automation, in
conjunction with hands-free ChemPakTM, completely assures that essential
chemical balances are maintained in water systems, and they are continuously monitored.
Low chemical warning alarms, system alerts, and chemical management protocols can be
monitored and controlled by the same system that is controlling the HVAC system, lighting
and access/security.
Tying It All Together
Owens has the training, experience, personnel, and chemicals to ensure
that our treatment programs work effectively. Owens understands the theoretical side of
engineering, the practical mechanical aspects of systems and the chemistry which allows
water do its job in a building. Integrating these disciplines, developing a water
treatment program and implementing and administering the process insures that a building
truly functions effectively.
